In mid-October, and running untill the end of 2011, Agnitio will be effecting a certificate change on our iPad-based tools.

Background

The initial versions of the Agnitio iPlanner-tools and the Agnitio iDocs tool were created in collaboration with an external company, and the tools were released to the AppStore using this company’s Apple Certificate (Which is more or less equivalent to an electronic signature on the application). But in order to continue the development, it will be necessary to alter this “signature”, and publish the iPad tools under the “Agnitio” Apple Certificate instead. This is needed in order for Agnitio to take full advantage of all the opportunities afforded by Apple, to continue the work to integrate our tools with Apple’s Mobile Device Management API, and in order for us to assign further resources to the continued development of the tools.

Impact

On September 21st, a new version of the iPlanner, iPlanner Light, iViewer and iDocs will be sent for approval in the AppStore. It is expected that these new versions will become available for download 2-3 weeks later, roughly in mid October. The new versions released will NOT REPLACE the current versions available on the AppStore. Rather, for a brief transition-period, 2 versions of each tool will be available on the Appstore, one listed as “Developed by Webhouse” (The old versions) and one labeled “Developed by Agnitio” (These are the new versions.) The icons, and descriptions on the tools will be altered to make it as obvious as possible which version is the new one, and which is the old one.

Actions Required

iPlanner and iPlanner Light

  1. Log in to the “Old” version of the tool that is already installed
  2. Go to the “Sync”-menu, and ensure that all monitoring data has been synchronized to the server (The caption under “Monitoring” should read “Number of items to sync: 0”)
  3. Un-install the “Old” version of the Application
  4. Go to the AppStore on the iPad, search for the new version of the software.
  5. Install
  6. Log in to the new version, using the normal user-name and password
  7. Synchronise any presentations and contact-lists available to you.

iViewer and iDocs

  1. Un-install the “Old” version of the Application
  2. Go to the AppStore on the iPad, search for the new version of the software.
  3. Install
  4. Log in to the new version, using the normal user-name and password
  5. Synchronise any presentations or documents available to you

Support

The update-procedure uses completely standard AppStore functionality, so the risk of issues is very limited. Should any issues arise, Agnitio can keep supporting the “Old” version of the software, until such time as all issues have been resolved and all customers and users are successfully migrated to the new version. Users should primarily be directed towards the 1st-line helpdesk available in their local organisations, but should any need for additional help or support arise, the Agnitio Support Team will be available to resolve them.

What is Agnitio doing to further facilitate the change?

We are aware that the certificate change requires an effort by all users. However, we are doing out utmost to ensure, that the process will be as smooth, simple and supportive as possible. To this end, we are doing a number of things:

  • All versions remain opperational untill the end of 2011. As mentioned above, all versions will remain fully opperational for the remainder of the year, allowing users ample time to change from one version to the other. Usernames and passwords will remain the same, and all data-connectivity will function as normal on either version. Thus, there will be no difference in the functionality between users on the old and on the new version, so users may change the App when it is convenient. Furthermore, there will be no issues if different users in the same organisation are using different versions.
  • Icon Change. The old versions of the Apps will have their icons replaced by a faded-out version, making it visually apparent that the users is on the old version, while at the same time not restricting any functionality.

  • Direct links to the new versions. Once both the new and old versions of the Applications are available on the AppStore, the OLD versions will be updated to contain a pop-up with a link to the new version of the respective software. This will allow users to install the new versions with a single click, without needing to manually search for the Agnitio Apps in the AppStore.
